Sharjeel Khan appeared before a three-man tribunal set up to hear the alleged corruption charges laid against him, on Friday. Khalid Latif, his team-mate for Pakistan and Islamabad United and similarly implicated, did not appear, however. He cited health reasons, forcing the postponement of his hearing by a week on the condition that no future adjournment would be granted.
Sharjeel and his lawyer agreed to the timelines to be adopted under the PCB's Anti-Corruption Code, with the formal hearing set for May 15 in Lahore. He was given a deadline of May 5 to respond to the alleged code-of-conduct breaches he and Latif were accused of during the PSL. The PCB said in a release that it "may, at its discretion, file a rebuttal by May 10".
The tribunal extended Latif's date, asking him to appear on March 31 to chalk out a timeline for the formal hearing. "He made an application for adjournment via email to the Chairman of the Tribunal citing health reasons and requesting that proceedings be adjourned to next week," a PCB statement said. "In the interest of justice the request is allowed and the proceedings in respect of Khalid are adjourned to 11:30am on 31st March 2017. Notice would also be issued with a stipulation that no further adjournment would be granted."
The tribunal, comprising Justice (retired) Asghar Haider (head of the tribunal), former PCB chairman Tauqir Zia and former wicketkeeper Wasim Bari, met at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. "The Tribunal in consultation with both parties agreed upon the procedure and timelines to be adopted under the Anti-Corruption Code," the PCB said. "PCB shall submit its opening brief detailing its claims along with the evidence to be relied on by 14th April 2017."
It is understood that Nasir Jamshed, who was arrested in the UK in relation to the same case, was in touch with both Latif and Sharjeel during the PSL. The PCB, as part of its prosecution, will send two officials to travel to the UK to question Jamshed.
"This time period (until April 14) has been agreed in order to give the PCB ACU an opportunity to travel to UK to interview Nasir Jamshed and meet with relevant UK authorities and determine if any of its findings are to be incorporated in the prosecution," PCB's release stated.
Sharjeel and Latif were provisionally suspended last month under the PCB's Anti-Corruption Code as part of an investigation into an organisation's alleged attempts to corrupt the second season of the PSL. Both players had denied some of the alleged breaches they were accused of but admitted to at least one of the more minor charges.

New Zealand claimed four wickets before the heavens above Hamilton opened with South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis riding his luck

Post by Saad Rizwan on Sat 25 Mar 2017, 2:48 pm

New Zealand claimed four wickets before the heavens above Hamilton opened with South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis riding his luck

Persistent mid-afternoon drizzle has prematurely ended day one of New Zealand's Test series comeback mission against South Africa.
The Black Caps held the Proteas to 4-123 before the heavens opened over Hamilton shortly before tea on Saturday.
The umpires delayed returns to play at 4pm, 4.30pm and then 5pm before calling an end to proceedings 45 minutes later.
The Seddon Park covers were gradually unfastened by ground staff as the rain began to subside but not enough to allow the Proteas back to the crease.
Heavier showers are forecast for Sunday and Monday, putting days two and three at considerable risk as the Kiwis look to rein in a 1-0 series deficit.
"All in all, we did well to get them four down. It would've been great to get a nice little hour tonight but it wasn't to be," Kiwi seamer Matt Henry said.
"I don't think you can look too far ahead. It's so early in the piece and weather can change, so one job at a time."
If and when the players return to the pitch, the South Africans will consider themselves lucky to still have captain and talisman Faf du Plessis at the crease.
The Black Caps' shonky use of DRS came back to bite before play ended, with du Plessis spared a review that would have otherwise sent him packing for just 16.
Having already wasted both their referrals, the Black Caps roared in appeal when the 39-Test veteran appeared to give the slightest of edges to a Neil Wagner speed ball.
But umpire Bruce Oxenford decided the 33-year-old made no contact, despite BJ Watling's animated plea from behind the stumps.
The television "snicko" later found du Plessis had nicked the delivery.
"You've got to go with a bit of gut, it all happens pretty quickly," Henry said.
"It can be frustrating but we'll get another chance."

Du Plessis was 33 not out at stumps, while first-drop Hashim Amla notched 50 off 88 balls before Henry cleaned him up with a yorker.
In the morning session, the Black Caps had limited South Africa to 3-71 thanks to the early dismissal of openers Theunis de Bruyn and Dean Elgar for a combined five runs.
Amla and JP Duminy then rallied with a 59-run stand before the latter ballooned Henry to Jeetan Patel at fine leg for 20 just before lunch.
The 25-year-old Henry, called in as cover for an injured Tim Southee, led the pace attack with Trent Boult, claiming an impressive 2-25 from 10 overs.
New Zealand XI: Tom Latham, Jeet Raval, Kane Williamson (c), Neil Broom, Henry Nicholls, Mitch Santner, BJ Watling (wk), Colin de Grandhomme, Matt Henry, Jeetan Patel, Neil Wagner.

South Africa XI: Theunis de Bruyn, Dean Elgar, Hashim Amla, JP Duminy, Faf du Plessis (c), Temba Bavuma, Quinton de Kock (wk), Vernon Philander, Keshav Maharaj, Morne Morkel, Kagiso Rabada.

Sri Lanka bowl in series opener, Mehedi debuts

Sri Lanka bowl in series opener, Mehedi debuts

Sri Lanka captain Upul Tharanga decided to bowl in the first ODI against Bangladesh in Dambulla. Bangladesh's captain Mashrafe Mortaza said they would have batted first, so the toss result did not make much of a difference.

Bangladesh handed an ODI debut to Mehedi Hasan, who had impressed in his seven Tests, while Mushfiqur Rahim slotted back in as wicketkeeper in place of Nurul Hasan, who had played Bangladesh's previous ODI in December.

Sri Lanka were without Niroshan Dickwella, who was suspended, and his place went to Dinesh Chandimal. They also included Milinda Siriwardana, Thisara Perera and Lakshan Sandakan in their XI.

Sri Lanka have lost the last three ODIs, while this fixture is Bangladesh's first in Dambulla since 2010, when they were crushed in all three Asia Cup games.

Sri Lanka: 1 Danushka Gunathilaka, 2 Upul Tharanga (capt), 3 Kusal Mendis, 4 Dinesh Chandimal (wk), 5 Asela Gunaratne, 6 Milinda Siriwardana, 7 Sachith Pathirana, 9 Thisara Perera, 9 Suranga Lakmal, 10 Lahiru Kumara, 11 Lakshan Sandakan

Bangladesh: 1 Tamim Iqbal, 2 Soumya Sarkar, 3 Sabbir Rahman, 4 Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), 5 Shakib Al Hasan, 6 Mahmudullah, 7 Mosaddek Hossain, 8 Mehedi Hasan, 9 Mashrafe Mortaza (capt), 10 Taskin Ahmed, 11 Mustafizur Rahman

This is the 10th instance of India fielding an XI, all having scored first class hundred.
Previous two :
vs ENG, Mumbai 2016
vs ZIM, Delhi 1993
#INDvAUS
